The combination with software makes viewing, recording, and sharing more efficient. Now you can take high-quality images and smoothly share information.

Nikon Instruments Inc. has developed the Digital Sight 100 digital camera for microscopes, and will launch sales on January 9, 2026, through Nikon Solutions Co., Ltd.

The Digital Sight 100 can be used in combination with a variety of optical microscopes. It offers a wide field of view, high definition, and high-level color reproducibility. It also offers an efficient workflow from viewing through to recording and information sharing, through the combination with Nikon’s NIS-Elements LE software. The Digital Sight 100 is expected to be used in a wide range of fields, including educational domains, research centers, and clinical sites. This camera lets you take high-quality images and smoothly share information.

Key Features

  • Wide field of view / high definition / high-level color reproducibility / high frame rate
With a field of view of 25, 17.7M pixels, and adobe RGB 12-bit support, you can take images with clear detail and rich color information. You can also easily make live observations and recordings at 60 fps (when recording at 4.1M pixels).
  • Works on multiple device interfaces
As it is compatible with USB 3.2, HDMI, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet, you can flexibly operate and share information from the camera even to distant locations.
  • Intuitive operability and software integration
Easy operations through using the camera with Nikon’s NIS-Elements LE software can contribute to reducing operator workload and ensure efficient operations from viewing to recording and sharing information.

The Popular Vote winners in the 2016 Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition are Jose Almodovar and Dr. Alvaro Roura. With so many spectacular images, it’s only fitting that more than one has taken the title.

It may look like a pair of trees, but Jose Almodovar’s image of a slime mold puts this specimen in a whole new light. What makes this image incredible is its colors and ability to provoke imagination and curiosity. It also required exemplary technique, as it Almodovar had to use a very specific focus and remain completely still when taking the photo.

Almodovar is a Scientific Instrumentation Specialist in charge of the microscopy center at The University of Puerto Rico’s Mayaguez Campus. He has been taking micrographs for over 22 years and has been participating in the Nikon Small World competition since 2006.

Dr. Alvaro Roura’s Viperfish inspires awe and terror in equal measure. Dr. Roura sorted this Viperfish from a plankton sample collected at night in the surface waters of the Iberian Peninsula. He chose this photo in part because of how it features the “blue” spot under the Viperfish’s eye. The spot produces a red light that brings red prey out of the dark, an extraordinary adaptation for the predator. What’s even more amazing about this photo? It was taken aboard a research vessel surrounded by waves that made the shot very difficult to take.

Dr. Roura’s research is focused on the ecology of zooplankton at The Instituto de Investigacións Mariñas in Vigo, Spain. He has been taking micrographs for eight years.
